Wrestling and Team Leadership Workshop Part I

Team leadership is guiding a group of people to achieve a shared goal. It involves creating a shared vision and facilitating positive communication and collaboration.

To work towards this, each individual must answer the following questions: “Where am I now? Where do I want to be?”

Once individuals can collect and cultivate their own vision, they may work together to get on the same page as a team. And begin to question, “Where are we now? Where do we want to go?”

In this four-part workshop, we will be undergoing the following directives:

Set an individual vision: develop a vision for oneself for the sport of wrestling and how the activity aligns with your future growth and personal values.

Set a team vision: Create and communicate a clear vision to team members. Once a vision has been established, recognize team members’ strengths and plan accordingly.

Focus on integrity, reliability, and accountability: As a vehicle for personal development, we will learn how the sport of wrestling promotes integrity, reliability, and accountability.

Explore different perspectives for training: individuals need to commit themselves for a long time to pursue excellence in anything. Wrestling is no different. The wrestling season itself is not set up for long-term development. That must occur with the athletes, their families, and coaches. Consistent, intelligent training and planning are necessary for athletic success in the difficult sport of wrestling. This focus must be addressed outside the high school and middle school wrestling seasons. During the season, there is insufficient time to pursue effective individual and team development. We will discuss planning, scheduling, and the multiple modalities of effective developmental training.

In addition to these lessons, we will train wrestling defense, upper-body wrestling offensive moves, strategies, and tactics.

This program consists of four 3-hour sessions.

The first two sessions will dive deeper into the mental skills of leadership, followed by fundamental defenses to the most common offensive move sets applied in folkstyle wrestling. The last two sessions focus on offensive hand fighting and upper-body wrestling moves.

The price of the 12-hour program is $360 per wrestler.
